Access Fund Announces Second Round Grant Recipients for 2009

In the second round of the Climbing Preservation Grant Program for 2009, the Access Fund awarded over $12,000 to support local climbing activism and conservation of the climbing environment. During this second round of grants, the Access Fund is supporting five proposals, representing a wide array of projects from grassroots start-up, to trail work, climber education, and sanitation.
Access Fund Launches New Advocacy Tool

The Access Fund announced today the launch of a new online grassroots advocacy tool that makes it easier and faster for activists to help influence public policy that affects climbing access. The new technology enables supporters to quickly and easily respond to urgent action alerts online by sending a preformatted letter or customizing their own letter, which is then automatically sent to the correct decision makers.

Option Secured to Purchase Lower Index Town Wall, WA

An option agreement to purchase the 20-acre private inholding at the Lower Index Town Walls of Snohomish County, Washington has been secured. The popular climbing area was closed earlier this year when the private landowner revoked access due to renewed interest from quarrying companies. After weeks of negotiations, an option agreement was reached that gives the Washington Climbers Coalition the sole right to purchase the property for long-term management.

Access Fund announces today that it will host a stop on the Telluride Mountainfilm Zero Emissions Tour on June 10, 2009 at the Boulder Theater in downtown Boulder, CO. Laurel Knob is Paid For!

After more than three years of fundraising efforts, the Carolina Climbers Coalition (CCC) made the final payment for the acquisition of Laurel Knob in North Carolina. Arguably the tallest cliff in the eastern United States, Laurel Knob boasts stunning water-grooved granite routes up to ten pitches long.
City Support Garnered for Climbing at Auburn Quarry

Both the City Council and the Mayor expressed their support for a resumption of climbing at the quarry. Although the decision is still at the discretion of California Department of Parks and Recreation , CRAGS is very encouraged by this support and feels that it will bring us one step closer to re-opening climbing at the Quarry.
Climbing Management Plan for North Area of McDowell Sonoran Preserve Approved!
