Update
B3Bouldering.com on 03/10/10
The weather continues to be poor. It’s been difficult finding anywhere dry to climb, which is rare for this time of year. This the snowiest winter in my memory in Colorado. Saturday we went to Newlin Creek, but everything was totally wet. Sunday I did a nice problem near the Primo Wall in [...]

Rock Climber Girl on 03/09/10
It's been a strange winter, but I'm starting to come out from my hibernation. Only it hasn't been hibernation... it's been a strange experience in constant motion for the last few months... very little rest, a very...

Interview With the ClimbingNarc
Splitter Choss on 03/09/10
ClimbingNarc.com is arguably the most popular climbing blog out there, with a loyal following that goes into depression when the site goes down for the weekend. I recently caught up with Brian Runnells, the Climbing Narc himself, to talk about the site and being a climber in the Midwest.
Rock Climbing In Your Living Room
The Mountain World on 03/09/10

At last, soon there will be no need to ever go outside, or even to a sweaty, dust-filled climbing gym, to experience "the thrill and adrenaline of free soloing." Game maker Human Soft has announced that it is developing a rock-climbing...

Climbing Outside
Mountains and Water on 03/09/10
The weather finally cleared up on the weekend so I was able to boulder outside. The snow has been so persistent that only very sun-exposed features at Flagstaff were climbable. Saturday especially was the day that the crowds really hit the mountain, not climbers so much as beer-drinking high school kids. I felt really tired and couldn't climb much of interest. However a shout out to OSMP for sandblasting the graffiti off the traverse on the backside of the Amphitheater

Sunday was a...

A History of Ice Screws and How to Sharpen Them
American Alpine Institute on 03/09/10
For many, February is the heart of the ice climbing season. And indeed, it is about now that ice tools, crampons and ice screws start to get dull. As expected, the Canadian Guide, Mike Barter, has a great series of videos on the topic. He spends a good chunk of the first video talking about the history of ice screws, before he goes into how to sharpen them.

And of course, as with most of Mike's videos, he can't help throwing in something a little bit funny at the end of the...

two words: Cuba
Send Austin on 03/08/10
Like three years ago Blaine went climbing in Cuba, and he will not stop talking about it. Every week or so the SA facebook newsfeed is full of Blaine’s asinine Cuba reminiscences. It’s pretty much nauseating. We always compose bitchy comments then delete them and say them to his face later. Here’s a picture of Blaine [...]
